§ 6.14.040. Traction engines, tractors excepted.

  • (a)

    The provisions of section 6.14.020 shall not apply to traction engines or tractors, the propulsive power of which is exerted not through wheels resting upon the ground but by means of a flexible band or chain known as a movable track, when the portions of the movable tracks in contact with the surface of the street, highway or alley present plain surfaces.

    (b)

    No traction engine or tractor having lugs, grousers or other mechanical contrivances on its wheels or tracks designed to give tractive effect shall be operated on any public street, highway or alley within the city unless a circular metal band of a width of not less than three inches is placed entirely around the periphery of such wheels or tracks, such band to serve as a protection against the tearing up or marring of the surface of the street, highway or alley.
